Frequently asked questions

What’s the best time to water my garden and how long should I spend on watering?
Gardens are best watered early in the morning, to reduce evaporation. Evening watering, though popular, leaves water on the plants overnight, which can encourage fungal diseases. The current water restrictions limit the time and duration for the watering of gardens. Find out the latest water restrictions details by contacting your local water retailer (City West Water, South East Water or Yarra Valley Water).

What pots are best?
Plastic, glazed or painted pots are more water-wise because these are less porous.

Isn’t this drought unusual?
The current drought is in its tenth year and has severely reduced the amount of water flowing in our rivers and streams and the level of water stored in our water supply reservoirs. Drought is a natural occurrence that we must plan for and respect.
